Wistem2D Scholar Award

The 2023 call for nominations for the WiSTEM2D Scholars Awards is expected to open in August, and in anticipation, VPRI is initiating an internal selection process. Nominations can be submitted directly to VPRI.

Nomination Limits

UBC is limited to six nominees: one woman assistant professor per STEM2D discipline – Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Manufacturing, and Design.

Award Details

Johnson & Johnson is looking to identify global women leading in both their research fields and leading as mentors, to be a vision for girls and other women in STEM2D. Recipients receive $150,000 over 3 years. See award criteria and FAQs for more information.

VPRI Internal Selection

VPRI has requested that Heads/Directors (or representatives) submit ONE nominee per unit in any given category to be considered for nomination, including the following:

  1. Department Head Letter of Recommendation (approx. 1-2 pages)
  2. 1000-word research proposal
  3. Current UBC CV
  4. Proposed STEM2D category (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Manufacturing, Design)

Please submit nominations to Meaghan Miller (meaghan.miller@ubc.caby August 24 at 9 am.

A central committee will review these and select the institution’s nominations for submission. Selected UBC candidates will be notified in early September, and will have VPRI support in finalizing their nomination packages for submission to J&J, which includes a detailed nomination form (2021 sample attached for reference), Department Head Letter of Recommendation, 1,000-word proposal, 3-page CV, and budget outline.
